Church Family News 02.11.25
Dear Friends,
This Sunday morning we are thinking through what it means to have our ‘hearts and minds set on things above’ in three big areas of life:
In Church
In the Home
And at Work
Paul - having told us about all that has been given to us in Christ, then sets out the wonderfully real (and challenging) implications for our day-to-day lives, as we try to follow Christ. My prayer for Sunday morning is that we leave inspired to ‘take off the old and put on the new’.
As Paul moves to apply the gospel to family life, he draws into focus the relationship between wives and husbands (Colossians 3:18-21).
What the Bible teaches here certainly is enormously counter-cultural, and might be quite new to some of us. And I’m just aware that it may raise lots of good questions for us.
So after the main service on Sunday, Katie and I will be running a Marriage Q&A for anyone who would like to join. We don’t hold ourselves up as the experts here, but we do try to live out this teaching in our marriage, and so we will share some of what we’ve learned along the way. Please feel free to ask us anything that is on your mind!
After the service we will break for coffee for 20 mins, and then reconvene back in church for the Q&A.
On Sunday evening we have our All Souls Memorial Service at 4pm. The service will include a chance to remember and give thanks to God for those we love who have died.
Every family from our villages who has had a funeral in the past few years has been personally invited - but all are welcome.
After the service there will be refreshments served in Alfold Church Room.
For more details, please see the invitation below.
There will be no 6pm Evensong service this Sunday.
We meet twice this coming Sunday morning in Loxwood Church. Looking together at Colossians 3:15-4:1…
8:30am - BCP Morning Prayer
10:00am - Family Communion, with groups for the kids & followed by refreshments & Q&A.
and once in the afternoon at Alfold…
4pm - All Souls Memorial Service - Alfold.
Everyone is welcome & we’d love to see you there!
With love in Christ,
Revd. James Forward

Remembrance Sunday
On 9th November we will be marking Remembrance Sunday in both villages. Communion will be served at the 8.30am service in Alfold, followed by services at 10am in both Alfold and Loxwood. Children’s Groups will be available in Loxwood. Both services will conclude with a time of silence and an act of remembrance at 11am.
Pilgrim Groups
Pilgrim Groups are a place of deeper fellowship, where we support one another in prayer, and go deeper into God's word together. If you are not already in a Pilgrim Group and would like to join one, please do e-mail Richard or speak to him in church. richard@alflox.org
Prayer Central
Our 1st Wednesday of the month Prayer Meeting is coming up next on Wednesday 5th November. We will meet in Loxwood Church Room. We meet at 7.30pm for refreshments, 8pm to sing and pray, and we always finish by 9pm. There is never an obligation to pray out loud. God hears the prayer of our hearts just as well! Please do join us.
Giving Sunday
On Sunday 23rd of November we are going to be joined by Revd. David Senior from Guildford Diocese who has oversight of Stewardship and Evangelism.
He will be preaching for us, and is going to be helping us to think about the joy of giving, and how our generosity can fund our goal to share the gospel with our villages and with the next generation.
Steven Board and I will be writing to you in the next few weeks to ask you to prayerfully consider your monthly giving.
Year of Prayer
Psalm 127 says ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.’ Monday Morning | Alfold or Loxwood Church Room | 9am-Midday | Drop in Drop Out | Come and pray for God to build.
Discover
Have you ever taken the time to discover what Jesus actually said about himself? Come and join us in a relaxed setting as we take a closer look. We meet in the Onslow on Monday nights and look through a bit of John's Gospel (which is a biography of Jesus' life) together. No question is silly or off limits. Everyone is welcome. If this could be right for you or a friend you know, drop me an email at andy@alflox.org Every Monday Night. 7.30-9pm. The Onslow Arms.
